Richard W. Phelps, 88, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at his home.
He was born May 17, 1926, in Bluefield, W.Va.
He served in the United States Air Force and was employed at National Electric Coil in Bluefield, and retired from Moran Electric Service, Indianapolis, Ind., in 1994.
He loved to fish and could repair almost anything that could be repaired. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Phelps; and his mother, Stella Phelps.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Reba (Morris) Phelps; his daughter, Beverly Bales and her husband, Mike; sons: Larry Phelps and wife, Marlene, and Rodney Phelps and wife, Linda; six grandchildren: Matthew Bales, Amanda Pigatto, Ronnie Phelps, Caitlin Phelps, Cynthia Bryant and Jennifer Phelps; great-grandchildren: Mason Bales, Abigail, Benjamin and Maxwell Pigatto, Ephrum, Lyla and Xander Bryant, Nikola and Farraday Everhart and Hayden Phelps; brother, Hugh Lee Phelps; sister, Effie Sesco; many loved sisters and brothers-in-law; and several other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday morning, July 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home, 2419 Georgetown Road N.W., with the Rev. Tom Wickes officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens and will conclude with full military honors.
The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service on Thursday morning.
