He was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Breckenridge, Pa., to William L. Solomon Sr. and Ellen Hauck Solomon.
He was an active member of Hillsdale United Methodist Church. He attended Penn State University on a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps scholarship. After a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation, he served four years of active duty and four years in the Marine Corps Reserve.
He was employed with Burlington Industries as an industrial engineer in the hosiery division and with Kurt Salmon Management Consultants as chief of the hosiery division. In 1973, he accepted a position as chief executive officer of the Charleston Hosiery Company in Cleveland. After moving to Advance, he worked with Lowe’s Home Improvement until retiring after his 80th birthday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William L. Solomon Jr. and Ronald Solomon; and a sister, Mary Solomon Borland.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Shirley Williams Solomon; daughter, Sandra Solomon Wininger and husband, David, and their children, Morgan and Matthew; son, Todd W. Solomon and wife, Lisa, and their children Clay and Raleigh of Chattanooga; and a brother, Richard Solomon and wife, Emmy, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and his beloved Bichon Frise, Missy.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Hillsdale United Methodist Church with Pastors Jerry Webb and Josh Barnes officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
