Polk County Sheriff’s Department received a call this morning alerting authorities of an off-road accident on U.S. Highway 64.

The car was reported to be on the bank of the Ocoee River at mile marker 13 at 5:31 a.m.

Officer Mike Monteith responded to the call.

“The driver was not familiar with the road,” Monteith said. “He was not from around here. He was from South Carolina.”

The driver reportedly pulled off to the side of the road before rolling once or twice toward the river. Monteith said rocks stopped the car before it could enter the water. The driver was reportedly taken to a hospital and later discharged. The car was not driveable following the incident.

He said the road was only shut down for about 10 to 15 minutes.
