OAK RIDGE — After posting a 1-over par 73 in the opening round of the 2012 Tennessee Women’s Senior Amateur Championship, Crossville’s Jean Roise closed the tournament with a second final round score of 81 to claim the Senior Title.
With the round on Tuesday cancelled due to standing water, Roise had to sit on her lead for a little over a day before coming back to the course to clinch her title.
Roise opened her final round with back-to-back bogeys on the first and second holes to start 2-over par. After a birdie at the fourth and another string of bogeys on six, seven and eight, Roise turned at 4-over par for the day.
Although she had a couple of bogeys on the backside, Roise was able to maintain her lead and finished with a one-stroke victory over Lynda Wimberly, from Brentwood. This is Roise's first Women's Senior Amateur crown.
Maggie Scott ended the tournament in fourth place, six strokes back, finishing with rounds of 79-78. Scott was three strokes better than Linda Mullins who came in with rounds of 80-80.
Roise also claimed the Tennessee Women’s Four-Ball title earlier this summer at Johnson City Country Club with teammate Carole Fuller. Roise was recently named to the Tennessee team for the annual Southeastern Women’s Amateur Team Championship Oct. 22-24 at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla.
