Roy William Elliott, 94, a resident of Athens and formerly of Henderson, Texas, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the family residence.
He was born in Bradley County on March, 18, 1920, to the late James and Melba Elliott. He was also preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Mozell Elliott; his daughter, Margie Mund; and a brother, Willie J. Elliott.
He was a baker, owning and operating his own donut shops Snowflake Donuts and Shipley Donuts. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Air Force. At one time, he was an iron worker. He was very active in the VFW and American Legion in Henderson and was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas.
He is survived by his sons: John Elliott and his wife, Mindy, of Douglasville, Ga., and James Elliott of Henderson; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Mary Ellen Taylor of McDonald; his long-time companion, Gennell Grammer, of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life graveside service was held at 10 a.m. today, July 8, 2014, at Earls Cemetery with the Rev. John Allman officiating.
Casketbearers were Brad Wilson, Paul Allman, Terry Graham, Justin Allman, Blake Gamble and Sophia Elliott.
The Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
