Senior Day at Bob McKenzie Field started out nice for the Bradley Central softball team Monday.

The weather was beautiful.

The families and fans celebrated the careers of the seven 12th-graders — Mikala Ard, Baylee Carroll, Allison Conley, Adriana Colon, Cassandra Fowler, Tori Roberts and Meghan Ward.

They held three-time defending state finalist Soddy-Daisy scoreless for the first two innings.

Then the first rumbles of trouble came in the third frame after a pair of Bearette errors allowed two Lady Trojans to trot home with unearned runs.

The main part of the avalanche came in the top of the fourth when 11 Soddy-Daisy runners were able to circle the bases.

The final aftershock in the fifth brought home two more visitors to give the game its final 15-0 tally as the run rule was enforced at the end of the inning.

Bradley (5-15, 3-7 District 5-AAA), which lost to the Lady Trojans by a 6-3 count earlier in the season, managed just two hits Monday, both coming in the opening inning.

Roberts laced a one-out single to left for the only Bearette ball to make it to the grass, while sophomore Abby Abernathy beat out a two-out infield hit. Both runners were stranded as the next batter popped out to the catcher.

Soddy-Daisy (23-0, 9-2), which has won two of the last three TSSAA state titles, pounded out 17 hits, with a dozen of them coming in the fourth-inning explosion.

Tori Denayer picked up the pitching victory, plus blasted a three-run shot over the left field fence, plus she had a single and another run scored in the fourth inning rally.

Cassidy Hackney led the Lady Trojan hit parade, going 3-for-4, with a triple and three RBIs, while Brooke Hale, Morgan Bailey, Haley Reynolds, Hannah Smith and Savannah Moore each had a pair of hits in the contest.

Bradley will travel to Benton this afternoon to take on Polk County (15-9) this evening at 5:30, before heading across town to Cleveland High on Thursday.
