Shannon Elayne (Reynolds) Smith, 29, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday morning, Oct. 23, 2011, while holding her husband’s hand at their home.
She was born in Athens on Dec. 6, 1981, the daughter of Don and Patricia (Mills) Reynolds. Her mother preceded her in death earlier this year.
She was raised in Athens where she was a member of Woodward Avenue Church of God.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Bryan College and her master’s degree in urban education at UTC. She was a first-grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary and then lead first-grade teacher at Birchwood Elementary School.
She lived in Birchwood since 2008, where she was a member of Birchwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed cake decorating, crafts, cooking, scrapbooking, photography, card making and, above all, her family.
Survivors include her husband, Justin Paul Smith, of Birchwood; son, Will Smith; her dad, Don Reynolds of Athens; her sister, Ashley (Justin) Taylor of Cleveland; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends today after 3 p.m. in Rudd Chapel at Bryan College in Dayton, where the funeral will be held this evening at 6:30 with the Revs. Dave Delmotte and Wayne Fritts officiating.
She will be laid to rest Wednesday at noon in the Birchwood Baptist Church Cemetery.
