The Southwind Bluegrass Band will headline the Cowboy Gospel Jubilee Friday at 7 p.m.

“Southwind gave an impressive concert last year during their first appearance on the Jubilee, and we can’t wait to have them back,” said Will Nichols, producer of the weekly music event.

“They play an all-acoustic mixture of traditional and modern bluegrass and gospel and sing tight, three- and four-part harmony.”

The Chattanooga-based band is comprised of Joel, Mickey and Patrick Robinson, and Tommy Koger. The Robinson trio are the sons of the late Morris “Bull” Robinson, who played for many years with Boxcar Pinion in the band “Tom and Newel and the Grasscutters.”

The first incarnation of “Southwind” was formed almost 30 years ago by Morris and Mickey Robinson and Boxcar and Ruthie Pinion.

Tommy Koger brought/added his own unique sound to the band after the passing of Morris, and is a perfect fit with the Robinson brothers. Southwind’s traditional style and three-part family harmony make them a favorite of bluegrass fans wherever they play.

This week’s Jubilee lineup includes Amy McAlister, singer-songwriter Elmer Bramlett, Emily Varnell, and, the Cowboy Church Band and Chorale. Ron Upchurch is announcing.

The Cowboy Gospel Jubilee is held at the Cleveland Cowboy Church in the Dockery Heights community at 3040 Blythe Road, off Dockery Lane, between Blue Springs and Blackburn Roads. Admission is free and a love offering is taken for the headliners.
