Lee University Symphonic Band
The concert will feature works by Peter Tchaikovsky, Dan Forrest, Robert Jager, Matt Conaway, John Williams, and Samuel Hazo. The ensemble will also perform several of its signature worship pieces.
The group will be premiering a work from the library of the National Concert Band of Cuba, La Bella Cubana. Mosies Hernandez, conductor of the National Band of Cuba, will be the guest conductor of this work at the concert. This is the first time Hernandez has visited the U.S. and this is the premiere of his work in the country.
Camp Kirkland, conductor of the Nashville Praise Symphony, will also be guest conducting one piece at the concert.
Symphonic Band has performed at leading churches across America, national seminars and conferences, concert festivals, and toured in nine different countries: Bahamas, Botswana, Brazil, Guatemala, Jordan, Mexico, South Africa, Trinidad, and Israel.
The group is the only collegiate band in America ever to perform in the nation of Jordan. The band is scheduled to perform in Cuba in June. It will become the first collegiate concert band to perform in Cuba since the 1950s.
In his 22nd year, Bailey currently serves as the conductor of the Symphonic Band. A professor of music at Lee University, he holds his doctorate in music education from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.
As well as serving as the Symphonic Band’s conductor, Bailey teaches graduate courses, instrumental music education methods classes, applied conduction, church music and music theory. Bailey also serves as the music ministries coordinator at Mount Olive Ministries in Cleveland.
The concert is free of charge and open to the public.
