MARYVILLE — The Cleveland Christian Lady Crusaders traveled to Maryville for tri-match volleyball action against Maryville Christian and Knoxville Christian Tuesday night. The host Maryville Christian Lady Eagles made quick work of the Lady Crusaders in the opening set of the tri-match 7-25, 18-25.
“We were never a factor in the first match. Maryville came out to play tonight and we simply were not ready,” said coach Mathis after the first match. Shayna Cole provided the highlights in the first set with four assists and three aces while Kelsey Farris added three kills, two aces on offense and a block and a dig on defense. Jennifer Corbitt contributed three digs.
In the second set, the Lady Crusaders picked up the pace a bit with a win 25-14, 20-25, 15-5 over Knoxville Christian. “We were able to give our younger ladies some much-needed playing time in the second set and give our starters a break. I’m proud of our young team and see glimpses of what looks to be a bright future for Lady Crusader Volleyball program. Our bench was very productive tonight,” Mathis added at the end of the evening.
Acacia Thompson had four kills and an ace while Kelsey Farris put down four kills, two aces and a dig.
