TFGC District III represents 17 garden clubs in Hamilton, Rhea, Bradley, Bledsoe and Sequatchie counties. Garden clubs are required to hold or participate in a Standard or Small Standard Flower Show every two years. As members of National Garden Clubs Inc., garden clubs are encouraged to sponsor flower shows to educate and stimulate the public about horticulture and flower designs. Garden clubs all over the United States work with youth in schools and create community projects involving beautification, conservation and education.
The theme of this show is “Patterns in Time.” With a quilt theme, the Stashbusters Quilt Group and Hyderhangout, Quilt Fabric and More Shop in Cleveland will display many quilts throughout the show.
This Standard Flower Show consists of a Horticulture Division with more than 400 specimens of annuals, perennials, vines, herbs, shrubs, trees and container-grown plants.
The second division will be the Design Division where more than 50 designs will be on display. The designs will display theme interpretation, judge’s comments and identify plant material.
The third division will hold a youth section, where youth can exhibit horticulture and design; an educational section, where you can see and get information on bluebirds, butterflies, shade and sun plants, and container gardens.
The last section will be the Artistic Crafts with quilting hoops, framed horticulture and sewing containers. A plant sale sponsored by the garden clubs will offer plants, and other gardening items.
The show will be judged by National Garden Club Flower Show Judges from Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. There will be several top awards for each division after each class receives individual awards. The opening of the flower show follows the judging.
Planning meetings started in March and continue monthly with the garden club presidents and chairmen of the show.
