Riley Tarver, a Bradley Central High School varsity football cheerleader, was recently given the chance to share her cheerleading skills with the people of England.
She was invited to participate in the 2014 London Varsity Tour on Jan. 1, and she got to perform in the city’s annual New Year’s Day parade.
She was asked to be part of the event after she was named one of the 2014 All American Cheerleaders at the Shorter College cheerleading camp in Rome, Ga., over the summer.
Only a few select cheerleaders across the country were asked to be part of the tour, which included performing a dance and cheer routine in the London New Year’s Day parade, where there are at least 10,000 performers entertaining a curbside audience of more than a million people.
In addition to performing through Berkeley Square, Downing Street and Piccadilly Circus, Tarver was also given a tour through Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and houses of Parliament.
“My time in London was an unforgettable experience,” Tarver said after returning home. “I am extremely grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to learn the different cultures and values of another country, and the chance to participate in London’s New Year’s Day Parade. This experience is something I truly will never forget.”
