ATLANTA — The Lee University men’s basketball team remained undefeated on the year with a 98-75 victory over Carver Baptist College Friday evening.
With the victory, the Flames move to 12-0 and are currently ranked No. 3 in the latest NAIA poll.
Senior Steve Bennett had his best performance of the year, registering a double-double with 18 points and a season-high 19 rebounds.
Senior point guard Duran Blue had a double-double of his own, with 17 points and 11 assists.
“Big Steve (Bennett) and Duran (Blue) had big games for us. We had good balance on the offensive end.” remarked coach Tommy Brown.
Junior guard Chase Dunn had 17 markers, four assists and four steals, doing a little bit of everything to help lead the Flames to the road victory.
Lee’s leading scorer on the year Will Barnes chipped in 16 points to go along with five assists.
Sophomore Cory Billingsley completed the balanced scoring attack as he finished with 16 points, giving Lee five players in double figures.
“Carver is a good basketball team and they shot the ball well. Defensively I thought we let up at times and relied on our offensive production too much,” Brown said.
The Flames dominated on the glass, outrebounding Carver 47-29.
Lee continued to shoot the ball well hitting 38-of-70 from the field (54 percent) and going 8-of-17 (47 percent) from 3-point distance.
Carver was paced by Nickolas Hood with 19 points. Sean Stringfellow added 16 markers and Julian Bratton had 15 points and seven assists for the Atlanta-based club.
Coach Brown and the Flames will enjoy some time off for the Christmas Break. Lee will be back in Southern States Athletic Conference action on Jan. 4 when they travel to Jackson, Miss., to battle Belhaven.
