Thomas J. “T.J.” Wooden Jr., a resident of Charleston, son of the late Tom and Myrtle Wooden, went home to see Jesus on Friday, May 6, 2011.

He was a member of Elkmont Baptist Church. He retired from Norfolk/Southern Railway after 37 years. He loved to hunt, fish and work in his garden.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters: Lucy Graham, Ethel Taylor, Thelma Bates and Tommy Gibson.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Wilma Wooden; former wife, Jeanette Brown; children: Jeff Wooden, Sonya Lynn and husband Scott, Brent Burton and Kim Janny; sister, Elizabeth Moore; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in the chapel of Grissom Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Hood and the Rev. Reed Wright officiating.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Joe Flowers, Marty Parker, Rick Burnette, Alvin Howard, Lamar Harden and Blake Morrow serving as pallbearers. Jason Swallows, Wayne Brady and Dr. Harrison Sims will serve as honorary pallbearers.

His family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
