Three Lake Forest Middle School students have waived arraignment and pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment charges after manufacturing an explosive device and setting it off in the school’s cafeteria. Two of the students were 14 and the third was reportedly a 15-year-old, according to reports.

According to Bradley County Juvenile Court officials, the three appeared in court late last week and entered their plea.

According to Terry Gallaher, director of the Bradley County Juvenile Court, they were placed on probation and given community service.

Gallaher said Tuesday the three juveniles did not have any prior history with the court.

Other conditions of their placement in the probation program include that the three male students are to have no contact with each other, computer access or cellphone usage. They were also referred to the Bradley County Behavioral Unit for rehabilitation.

A YouTube video was reportedly the source where three students at Lake Forest Middle School got the idea to manufacture a chemical device which exploded at Lake Forest Middle School one week ago today, according to officials.

The three teenagers were charged by law enforcement investigators with possession of a weapon on school property and reckless endangerment, according to Bob Gault, media relations coordinator for Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

A soft drink bottle was determined as the vessel where chemicals were mixed then reacted, causing the explosion.

School resource officers began an investigation at the school after the soft drink bottle device exploded inside a trash can, causing a “loud boom and smoke.”

“SROs and school administrators quickly identified those involved,” Gault said last week.
