Investigators following up on an alleged “immediate meth precursor” case made three arrests and removed two children from a home where suspected meth was being manufactured, according to Steve Lawson, director of the 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force.
Valorie Michelle Hammond, 23, Ryan Lee Drake, 19, and Angela Christine Barbee, 47, face various charges after a warrant was issued for Hammond’s arrest and the subsequent finding of an alleged methamphetamine manufacturing process inside an apartment on Lay Street.
Hammond was charged with initiation of methamphetamine manufacture, two counts of reckless endangerment (regarding the children) and two counts of identity theft. Drake was charged with initiation of methamphetamine manufacture and two counts of reckless endangerment. Barbee was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment and initiation of meth manufacture, jail records indicated.
Lawson said DTF agents and officer Danny Hickman of the Cleveland Police Department went to the apartment on Lay Street to serve a warrant on Hammond in the purchase of precursor materials.
Officials noticed a strong odor coming from the apartment, according to a report filed by DTF’s Dave Jones.
Several items associated with alleged meth manufacture were found, the report indicated.
Officials also found two sets of driver’s licenses in Hammond’s purse and indicated the licenses didn’t belong to her.
Lawson said after discovering meth had been produced inside the apartment on a number of occasions, the Department of Children’s Services was notified and responded to the scene to take custody of the two children.
Lawson said Monday afternoon tthe apartment had been quarantined.
Hammond was also charged at the Bradley County Jail with the initial warrant for immediate meth precursor.
All three remain in the Bradley County Jail under $15,000 bond each, according to Bob Gault, media relations coordinator.
- A man who allegedly attempted to take scrap metal several months ago returned to the scene once again last week.
According to officials at the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, Robert James Davis, 60, was charged with attempted theft after he got his van stuck on the same property (and in the same spot) as several months ago, when he allegedly attempted to take the same scrap metal.
Davis was also reportedly in the same vehicle when he got stuck last week.
According to a report issued by Bob Gault, deputies arrived on the scene on Pleasant Grove Trail and found Davis attempting to dig his van out of the same hole where he got stuck in November.
Deputies had responded to a theft in progress call both times.
“Prior to his arrest last week Davis had spent several hours trying to free his vehicle. He was charged with attempted theft over $10,000 and vandalism under $500. Further investigation revealed Davis entered the property by cutting a barbed wire fence. The investigation included the Criminal Investigations Division,” said Gault.
Gault also said Davis remains in custody at the jail under $15,000 bond.
