The grand opening of Tri State Bait & Tackle was held on Oct. 27. The new bait and tackle store held special events and giveaways on that day. Tri State Bait & Tackle is located adjacent to Tri State Auto Parts at 5425 North Lee Hwy just next to the old bowling alley.
According to store owners, they are featuring rods, reels, crank baits, spinner baits, and plastics in the store, with such brancs as Lucky Craft, Zoom, Excaliber, Strike King, Bobby Garland, Lews and Quantum. More inventory is still coming in, owners said. Tri State Bait & Tackle also exclusively carries John Miles Custom Rods and Pour House Custom Baits.
The grand opening festivities began on Friday afternoon, Oct. 26, with a special dedication ceremony with owners Chris McCleese (and his wife, Jerri) and Jerry Baker (and his wife, Janice) along with special guests John Miles, Alvin Howard with the Cleveland Bassmasters, Keith Gombash and Tim Hurst with CATCH Ministry and Dewayne Lowe of the Cleveland Jr. Bass Club. Mix 104.1 broadcasted live.
A donation was given to the Cleveland Jr. Bass Club for the proceeds of the hot dogs, chips and drinks that were sold. Special games and prizes for the Cleveland Jr. Bass Club and other young fisherman were led by Kevin Drake and Brandon Banther.
Last year, owners Chris McCleese and Jerry Baker acquired the former Tri State Imports and expanded the business to also include domestic auto parts. Tri State Auto Parts still caters to Volkswagen and import car enthusiasts, as well as next day delivery option.
According to owners, a lot of effort went in to renovating the building and organizing the inventory. As a result, according to Chris McCleese, an avid fisherman, “We found ourselves with valuable space available for use and felt there was a need to offer Cleveland the convenience of a local bait and tackle store.”
Both businesses are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays. Both Tri State Bait & Tackle, as well as Tri State Auto Parts, will be open on Black Friday, Nov. 23. Gift certificates are available now. For information, call 476-1149.
