Four members of the Jefferson Davis Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy attended the 117th annual Tennessee Division UDC Conference in Alcoa, Oct. 11-12. Participants enjoyed meeting fellow UDC members from across the state and hearing the activities of the previous year. A special service for veterans was celebrated and a memorial was held for members who have passed on, recognizing their lives and sacrifices. The Jefferson Davis Chapter honored Ellen Ann Campbell. Shawn Pritchett gave a presentation about Camp Ford in Tyler, Texas, and its role in the Civil War at the October meeting of the Jefferson Davis Chapter 900 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The October meeting of the Jefferson Davis Chapter 900 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy featured Shawn Pritchett, who gave a presentation about Camp Ford in Tyler, Texas, and its role in the Civil War.
Pritchett visited the site of the prisoner of war camp and shared re-created pictures and pictures as it looks today.
The meeting was held Oct. 19 at the Cleveland Public Library.
UDC members discussed the plans for the November Living History Event in Charleston and future service projects.
The November meeting will be held in Charleston at 9 a.m. to begin the Living History Event.
In December, the Jefferson Chapter will collect and take items needed for the veterans to the VA hospital, including toiletries, socks, backpacks, sweats and magazines/books.
The December meeting will be Christmas dinner at Joann Finnell's home with a $1 fun gift exchange.
