The banquet will be held at the Professional Development Center at Life Care Centers of America’s corporate offices on Keith Street. The program begins at 6 p.m., with doors open by 5:30 p.m.
Two of the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of the William F. Johnson Sr. Community Service Award and the Jim Tucker Award.
“Former recipients of the William F. Johnson Award and the Jim Tucker Award were involved in the selection of this year’s recipients, and we feel we have two fine individuals who do so much in our community to receive this recognition,” said United Way of Bradley County President and CEO Matt Ryerson.
The William F. Johnson Sr. Community Service Award is the highest honor given to a United Way of Bradley County volunteer. Last year’s recipient was longtime United Way supporter Mickey Torbett, who will be presenting the award at the March event.
Forty other individuals have received the award since its inception in 1977. That list includes: Art Rhodes, the 2012 award recipient; Stephen Crass, 2011; Nancy Casson, 2010; Forrest Preston, 2009; Terry Henry, 2008; Bob Card and Keith Barrett, 2007; Ricky Sanders, 2006; Georgia Gann, 2005; Cathy Barrett, 2004; John Kimball, 2003; Ron Braam, 2002; Ray Beckler, 2001; Lee Stewart, 2000; Tom Wheeler, 1999; Carolyn Jackson, 1998; Don Lorton, 1997; Jim Breaux, 1996; Charlotte Thorogood, 1995; Nelson Wooldridge, 1994; Ralph Buckner Jr., 1993; Dr. Lewis Willis, 1992; Jim Nowack, 1991; Ken Rayborn, 1990; Steve Bivens and Sam McReynolds, 1989; Hoyle Rymer, 1988; Jim Williams, 1987; Lou Patten, 1986; Wayne Cooke, 1985; Joe Rodgers Jr., 1984; Jerry Ward, 1983; Harry L. The Jim Tucker Award is named for the former Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland executive director, a true servant to the children and families of Cleveland and Bradley County.
The recipient is a person of integrity and compassion who exemplifies the work performed in the community by Col. Tucker, and is an inspiration to others in the profession, much like Tucker was through his work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland, Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland, and his church.
The Jim Tucker Award has been presented twice: James Anderson, president and CEO of the Family Resource Agency, was the first recipient, and last year’s recipient was Lee McChesney of the Cleveland Family YMCA.
Art Rhodes, the 2013 United Way Board chairman, will also pass the gavel to the 2014 Board chair, Tanya Mazzolini, at the banquet.
Tickets for the event are $35 each, with special prices of $275 for a table of eight, and $325 for a table of 10. Deadline for ordering tickets is Monday, March 3.
