United Way of Bradley County continues to seek initiatives that will provide assistance to those in need in the Cleveland area community. Joining this group of helpful programs is a new partnership between United Way and Coast2Coast.

Coast2Coast offers a free prescription discount card which is provided by townships, city and county governments — and by local United Way organizations. The program includes participation by United States pharmacies to provide annual savings up to 55 percent to those utilizing the card.

Savings on a single prescription range from a few percent up to 75 percent (sometimes more) off the retail price of the drug, according to Coast2Coast.

“We have had a great partnership with FamilyWize for many years, saving residents in our community over $2 million since 2007,” said Matt Ryerson, United Way of Bradley County president and CEO. “Now we want to add this new discount card program to that program to make sure that as many in our community who need assistance are able to receive that help.”

Coast2Coast cardholders save on both brand name and generic drugs. All members of a family can use the card. The card is free and can be used immediately.

There are no age, income or other exclusions. There are no forms to fill out. Simply take the card to one of the 59,000-plus participating pharmacies to start saving today.

“We are pleased to work with Coast2Coast as it offers a few more options for savings that FamilyWize does not, including providing assistance with pet prescriptions and veterinary office visits,” Ryerson said. “Many people in our community are unable to provide the care for their pets that they wish they could due to finances, so this can benefit them.

“Coast2Coast also provides discounts on lab and imaging tests, dental needs and vision needs, as well as savings on diabetic equipment and supplies and hearing needs,” he added. For example, Coast2Coast information shows savings of up to 60 percent on dental care needs at over 80,000 dental care providers with more than 140,000 offices.

Ryerson stressed that these savings are available through participating pharmacies and medical offices, so a cardholder should check to make sure it will be honored at their pharmacy or by their doctor or veterinarian. He added that, in the same case as FamilyWize, to make sure that the savings through use of the cards is better than a discount program that a pharmacy may already have in place.

“Our goal is to make it easier for those in our community who are in need of assistance with these costs to save money,” he said.

An additional benefit from the Coast2Coast prescription discount card is each time it is used in the United Way of Bradley County service area, United Way receives a donation from Coast2Coast of $1.25.
