Virginia “Ginny” Glass Cary, 85, a resident of Cleveland, passed away early Saturday morning, July 12, 2014, in a local hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Zula Bowers Glass and Bill Glass. Her husband of 65 years, the Rev. Lovell R. Cary, and her brother, Halver Glass, also preceded her in death.
She along with her husband served as missionaries for the Church of God for more than 60 years. They served in Hawaii when it was still a territory and not a state, the Philippines and Hong Kong. They traveled around the world two to three times in their ministry. She also survived the earthquake in Haiti.
She loved working in her flower garden and she was known for her rose garden which was her pride and joy! She enjoyed working crossword puzzles but most of all she enjoyed reading her Bible two to three hours a day. She was a member of the Westmore Church of God.
Survivors include her daughters: Sharon Cary Brown and Suzi Cary Watts and her husband, Bill, all of Cleveland; her grandchildren: Cary Steven Whitt and his wife, Sarah, of Columbus, Ohio, Jeremy Scott Whitt and his wife, Tiffany, of Chattanooga and Jenna Fawn Brown of White Sulpher Springs, W.Va.; her great-grandchildren: Carter Lovell Whitt, Lyla Addison Whitt and Ruby Sue Whitt, all of Columbus, Ohio; her brothers-in-law, Ernest Cary and his wife, Betty, of Mechanicsville, Va., Robert Cary and his wife, Jeanette, of Cleveland and Bill Cary and his wife, Wanda Cary, of Bowling Green, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held Wednesday afternoon, July 16, 2014, at 1 p.m. from the Westmore Church of God with Pastor Kelvin Page, the Rev. Bob Daughtery, the Rev. Robert Cary and Wanda LeRoy officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jeremy Whitt, Cary Whitt, Michael Cary, Ron Gilbert, Bill Hale, Curt Schubert, Alan Jones, Bill Watts and Dan Winters serving as active casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers with be Pat Daughtery, Jeanette Cary, Lorraine Alton, Wanda LeRoy, Kathy Cooper, Willa Smith, Shirley Lowe, Edna Frazier, Doris Hughes and Mary Winters.
A dove release will conclude the services.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lovell Cary Memorial Fund/China Project No. 7500067, In care of Church of God World Missions, 2490 Keith Street N.W. Cleveland, TN 37311.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. just before the service Wednesday at the Westmore Church of God, 2412 Wolfe Drive N.W. Cleveland, TN.
