WATERVILLE COMMUNITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, through funding provided by a Focus Grant, extended 30 grade 3-5 students’ educations into June, during a two-week, discovery-based summer program called Camp Cherokee. Students, from back left, Cobe Harned, Jaxon Frerichs, Malachi Hewitt and Wade Lanier as well as, front row, from left, Zoe Harned and Gabby Peacock, show off their artwork from their play based on the book "The Kapok Tree," which was read during Camp Cherokee. Local Artist Hollye Kyle, not pictured, taught students basic painting skills, like strokes and shading. She painted the backdrop while students painted the animals they portrayed in the play.
