I know of no candidate who can bring significant changes to the economy, the environment, who can guarantee the right to life, even of the unborn, end crime and injustice, poverty, suffering and war, even cruelty to animals and make people feel safe and secure for the rest of their lives. Do you?
Still, I know of no citizen who does not want to see these changes right now. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was quoted as saying, “Jesus was too smart to ever run for public office.” I agree. In fact, when Jesus perceived that people would try make him a king he refused public office, according to John 6:15.
No one would question that Jesus Christ, as described in the Bible, would be anything but the ideal ruler over mankind. He talked to people about government, about rulership — about a kingdom of real change and even taught people to pray for that kingdom to come.
Isaiah 9:7 said, “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end...” For those who put faith in these words, a government with Jesus as ruler was as real as any candidate running for the Presidency of the United States who desires real change. Who do you think will do the better job?
Not only was world peace promised, Psalm 72:12 said, “For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also and him that hath no helper.”
Many believe the poor and needy are falling through the cracks these days whereas the wealthy and special interest groups are being catered to.
As far as housing and a strong economy are concerned, Isaiah 65:21 promises, “And they shall build houses and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them.”
Getting to the very root of terrorism, crime and all violence, Psalm 37:10 says, “For yet a little while and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place and it shall not be.” Imagine what the world would be like if there was no place for troublemakers.
When it comes to health care for everyone, the policy of his kingdom/government is simple: Isaiah 33:24 says, “And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.”
In fact, when Jesus walked the earth, Luke 9:11 says, “And the people, when they knew it, followed him and he received them and spake unto them of the Kingdom of God and healed them that had need of healing.”
By demonstrating on a small scale what God’s kingdom would do on a much larger scale when God’s will is done on earth as it is in heaven, Jesus gained millions of faithful followers over the centuries who continue to seek first that Kingdom.
What Jesus promised at John 11:25 is beyond human rulers and has bipartisan appeal. He said, “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”
Even wild and tamed animals who experience cruelty and neglect will experience a real change, according to Isaiah 11:6-9. As for environmental concerns, Revelation 11:18 promises God will “destroy them which destroy the earth.”
Now, some might call this a utopian society where dreamers live, yet they listen to candidates who lobby for similar changes but never fully deliver on their campaign promises. God’s unfailing Word assures us at Titus 1:2 this “hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised” is real.
Who else has the power, wisdom, sense of justice and unselfish concern for the welfare of all to accomplish what everyone needs better than the Almighty himself? Do you believe God’s record of faithfulness is more reliable than all manmade promises?
Wisely, Psalm 146:3-5 says, “Do not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish. How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God.” — New American Standard Bible.
God has already set in motion a Kingdom that will never be brought to ruin, according to Daniel 2:44. It will solve the global problems all humans have wanted to see an end to and bring about peace on earth, good will and prosperity.
Yes, change is coming. It is the greatest change of all, brought about by God, with His blessings, at His appointed time and to the benefit of all lovers of righteousness.
All people should choose wisely. Everyone’s decision is a personal matter. But it should be an informed, responsible decision because too much really is at stake. As Zechariah 14:9 says, “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth.”
