The National Honor Society at Walker Valley High School conducted a project to benefit the Ben Atchley State Veterans Home in Knoxville. Students donated 150 Christmas gift bags containing socks, lotion, toothpaste and other items, along with hand-written cards and letters of appreciation for the disabled veterans in the home. Commander Bill Gray of the local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans accepted the gifts to be distributed Dec. 18. The NHS also presented him with a cash donation of $370 to go toward special outings and meals.
