Polk County officials have arrested a man for allegedly killing three members of his family. George Steven Waters, 33, of Copperhill, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, according to Polk County Jail records.

Willard Waters, 61, Wanda Waters, 59, and Marion Doug Waters, 40, all of Copperhill were shot Friday afternoon, according to information provided by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Kristen Helm, information officer for TBI said Friday that TBI agents were on the scene along with Polk County Criminal Investigations detectives and the 10th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office.

“This happened on a gravel road that has 5 houses on it that are all occupied by family members. There have been issues involving a property line dispute within the family. A driveway was being graded by a tractor when the altercation took place. The scene is outside and we are gathering evidence,” Helm said.

“At least one family member has been identified as a subject of the investigation,” Helm said Friday prior to George Waters’ arrest.

According to information provided by Polk investigators, deputies responded to the Grassy Creek community at 2:35 p.m., where they found “three gunshot victims at the scene. Dead at the scene were Wanda and Marion Waters.”

Willard Waters was transported to a local hospital where he died later, according to reports.

Willard Waters was married to Wanda Waters and Marion Doug Waters was their son. George Waters is a nephew to Willard and Wanda Waters and a cousin to Marion Doug Waters.

George Waters was taken into custody Friday and is being held without bond at the Polk County Jail.

Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy. The investigation is still under way.
