A local church is calling on the community to step up and help support a neighbor in need.

Waterville Baptist Church is partnering with some musicians to offer a benefit singing night for Jessie Wayne Long’s medical costs.

The event will feature four bands: Skeeter Hindman, Trinity Trio, Heart of Praise and Waterville Grass Revival.

The singing will be held at 6 p.m. this Saturday at the church.

Church member David Swallows said Long had been in a car accident that landed him in the hospital for an extended time.

Long does not have insurance.

“We are just trying to raise some money for him,” Swallows said.

Swallows said he hopes other churches and community members will join Waterville Baptist for the event.

Swallows said donations of any amount will be appreciated. He was unsure of the total medical costs Long had accumulated. However, he said it would be a lot based on the Long’s length of stay in the hospital after he lost control of his vehicle and it hit a tree.

Church officials became aware of the need when Long’s uncle, who attends Waterville, brought it to the church community’s attention.

Waterville Baptist Church is located at 4555 Dalton Pike.
