ACCELERATED READER — Waterville Community Elementary School recently kicked off the school year with the Accelerated Reading Program. This year’s theme is “Reading Road Trip.” The AR Program is designed to encourage children to read and what the adventure of reading will offer. Reading can take students many places. WCES has many reward trips and activities planned throughout the year. Some of these trips include a wilderness road trip to Red Clay State Park to learn about the history and a safari to the Chattanooga Zoo. Students read books and take short tests on the content and gain points. These points are spent to participate in various activities such as movies, an “Irish Jig,” a day at the “beach” and the WCES version of “A Minute to Win It.” Everyone at Waterville was very excited about the AR program kick-off, especially some of the teachers!
