The Polk County Wildcats got the Mistletoe Madness Tournament in Chatsworth, Ga., off on the right foot with a 46-30 win against Sonoraville on Wednesday night.

The Wildcat defense held the opposition to just four points in the opening quarter and just a pair of points in the third quarter. The defensive stand helped the Benton crew weather its own single-digit scoring quarters when the team only managed eight points in each of the final two periods.

Evan Ball led team scoring with 12 points on the back of four big 3-pointers. He also added six rebounds and four assists.

Chandler Hutcheson had four points. Gage Locke had four points, 12 boards and four assists. Cody Groomes contributed six points, four rebounds and five assists. Will Richmond had a pair of points.

Derrick Weber put up nine points, six rebounds and four assists, and Devin Weber rounded out scoring with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Polk’s boys are back in action this evening as they take on Gilmer County (Ga.) at 5:30.
