TELLICO PLAINS — The Polk County Wildcats saw action Tuesday night, traveling to Tellico High School to face off against the Bears.

Both the boys and girls games were nail-biters with the combined difference in both games being a mere five points.

The Wildkittens fought hard in their game against the Lady Bears, but came up just short in a tight 45-41 decision, while the boys’ game saw some drama on the way to a 50-49 victory.

Tellico looked to have things wrapped up in the boys’ match-up, when with less than a second on the clock Polk junior Evan Ball found himself on the free-throw line with his team trailing by a point.

Ball notched both shots to give the Wildcats a last-second dramatic win.

Wildcat scoring was led by Logan Brewer who netted 17 points and pulled down eight boards. Alex Akins scored 11 and grabbed six rebounds.

Lady Bears 45, Wildkittens 41

It was a tight game throughout as the Wildkittens faced off against the Tellico Lady Bears.

The Polk County girls never led at the end of a quarter, but they also never found themselves down by more than two scores.

Going into the half the teams were separated by a single point as the Lady Bears held a slim 21-20 lead over the Wildkittens.

Play remained close as both teams battled down the stretch, but the Polk girls were never able to get over the hump and steal the lead.

Things ended with the Lady Bears walking off the court with a 45-41 win.

Wildkitten scoring was led by Emily Wilson and Maclain Yowarsky, who both netted 12.
