William “Bill” Ehly, 84, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, April, 27, 2013, at a local health care facility.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a computer systems programmer for the federal government. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served two years in the United States Navy and four years in the United States Air Force. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge No. 228 in Wheaton, Md.

He enjoyed metal detecting, golf, woodworking, games on the computer and travelling. He sang in the chorus, Sounds of Florida, in Cape Coral. He also worked with the Boy Scouts of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Ehly Sr. and Gladys Watts Ehly; and sister, Helen Vasquez.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Pitner Ehly of Cleveland; children: Steve Ehly of Chamblee, Ga., Scott Ehly and wife, Brenda, of Duluth, Ga., and Sharon Carter and husband, William, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; stepchildren: Joe Scofield and wife, Lisa, of Cleveland, Janet Steilberger and husband, Karl, of Dallas, Texas and Mary Beaver and husband, Dan, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; five grandchildren: Christine Ehly, Austin Ehly, Sam Ehly, Ben Ehly and Maddie Carter; eight stepgrandchildren: Melissa McCann, Robbie Steilberger, Eric Steilberger, Jessika Brown, Zachary Weichler, Coby Weichler, Joe Scofield II and Jarod Scofield; seven great-grandchildren; halfbrother, Richard Binder of Lansdale, Pa.; and uncle, Frank Ehly and wife, Grace, of Lansdale, Pa.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastors Tom Seay and Lu Crandall officiating.

Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Grissom Funeral Home and on Thursday, from noon to 1 p.m., at the church prior to the service.
