William “Bill” Franklin Stewart, 76, affectionately known by friends and family as “Papa Smurf,” went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Collins Stewart; infant daughter, Misty Renee Stewart; and great-granddaughter, Erowyn Kimsey.

Left to cherish his memories include his children: Melissa “Missy” Calfee (Bryan), Robert Stewart and Rhonda Newman (Mark Hampton); grandchildren: Thomas and Carolyn Kimsey, Tyler Kimsey, Thomas J. Barnhill, Kristen Hancock and Andrew and Taylor Newman; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and William Kimsey and Alyia Hancock; sisters: Emma Jean Ingram of Athens and Rosa Lee Byrum of Cincinnati; and several nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life he had numerous jobs including carpenter, dairy farmer, pulp wood cutter, but his most recent, which he was most known for, was a house mover where he was best known as the “man on the roof.”

The family will receive friends at Clingan Ridge Baptist Church, 2412 Georgetown Road N.W., Cleveland TN 37311 on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, from 1 to 4 p.m. with a small memorial time at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga TN 37416.
