McMINN COUNTY boasts 43 Century Farms. This is the home of Edna Varnell Pickens on the J.K. Pickens Farm, which has been in the Pickens family for 113 years. The house was constructed prior to the Civil War and the front was added in 1866.
Celebrating century-old farms
McMinn County, which was established in 1819, was named for Gov. Joseph McMinn. Athens is the county seat.

THE BLYTHEWOOD FARMS setting offers both the gardens of Bess Neil and Max and Margo Everhart, as well as the Hair Conrad cabin, on the Cleveland area Spring Garden Tour, which will be June 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gardens feature both spring and summer plantings and a flowing water display. Blythewood Farms is known for a half century of dedication to the breeding of American Saddlebred horses.
