PAXTON HARRIS, 3, was born prematurely, weighing only 1 pound, 13 ounces and predicted to be paralyzed from birth. But today he and his mother, Lolita, are a happy single-parent family experiencing the joys of playing together with much laughter, in spite of his recent diagnosis of autism and a few other health issues. “We are so thankful for our family and friends — for wonderful therapists, teachers and doctors — and to God for giving us every day of life, love and laughter,” said Lolita, who lives in Cleveland. Paxton, a very happy child, loves to play with balls of all sizes and colors as seen above.

National Epilepsy Awareness Month was celebrated with the presentation of the book “Visions: Artists Living With Epilepsy,” to the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library in memory of the late Jacqui Streeton, an artist who had epilepsy. Library director Andrew Hunt, right, accepted the donation from Bettie Marlowe of the Cleveland Daily Banner, and said it was an honor to add the book by Dr. Steven C. Schachter to the library. “Visions” includes several paintings by Streeton she used to promote epilepsy awareness. Education Services Director Rita Fielding, left, Epilepsy Foundation Southeast Tennessee, who participated in the presentation, said, “Streeton had a positive effect on many, including those living with epilepsy, and we are grateful for her efforts in raising awareness.
