Faith or Dare “No matter what may be the test, God will take care of you; Lean, weary one, upon His breast, God will take care of you. God will take care of you, thru ev’ry day, O’er all the way; He will take care of you, God will take care of you.” Those are the words of a song written in the early 1900s. The Rev. A.W. Stillman Martin, his wife and son were visiting friends in New York City and Martin was invited to preach one Sunday. But his wife was sick and he decided to call the church officers saying he could not come. His 9-year-old son stopped him and said, “Father, don’t you think that if God wants you to preach today, He will take care of mother while you are away?” He went on and preached. His wife was so inspired by the faith of her son, she penned the words to this song. When the Rev. Martin read the poem, he went to the organ and within minutes had written the tune. We see here a wonderful demonstration of faith – faith in the words of Jesus to the disciples concerning their obedience in Matthew 28:20 (KJV): “… and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” The promise is “if God wants me to …” It does not give us the privilege to boast of the fact that being a Christian entitles us to His protection even when we act unwisely in a situation. more

Spring cleaning Spring has arrived. The definitive color is yellow – yellow daffodils and yellow forsythia – like sunshine reminding the earth that life overshadows death and to all things, there is resurrection. Some announcements of spring came earlier – the blooming of white blossoms on trees, the buds bursting into green and the long lines at the car wash. I love this season of the year with its burst of energy that permeates your being with a “want to do” feeling that spills over into clearing, cleaning and closet exploring, putting away the winter gear and giving away what we don’t want to put away. more
