KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Lee University track & field teams completed the first day of competition in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Javelina Stadium with two of the three athletes advancing out of the preliminary round and into their respective event final.


Christian Noble was the top finisher in the second heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:15.95. He will enter Friday night’s final with the sixth-best time out of 12 finalists from the prelims. Leakey Kiposgei of American International posted the best time at 9:07.54.


Justin Brooks qualified for Saturday’s final of the 400-meter dash by placing second in Heat No. 3 with a time of 47.95 seconds. His time was the 16th-quickest in the preliminary round.


Charlee Boxall was ninth out of 10 runners in Heat No. 2 of the 1,500-meter run. The top eight of the heat qualified for the event final. Boxall crossed the finish line at 4:39.79. The final time-qualifier in the event posted a time of 4:35.70.


Josiah Brooks begins toay’s action with the triple jump at 5:45 p.m. EDT, followed by the 200-meter dash preliminaries with Justin Brooks at 6:50 p.m. Noble competes in the final of the steeplechase at 8:30 and the 4x400-meter relay team takes the track at 9:10 p.m. for the preliminary round.
