The Cleveland State Community College baseball Cougars fell 12-8 to Gordon State on Tuesday.
The teams traded runs through the first few innings, with Cleveland State taking a 3-2 lead in the fourth.
Soon after, a two-inning offensive outburst produced 10 runs for the Highlanders, which eventually proved too much for the Cougars
CSCC third baseman Rhett Baldwin continued his tear at the plate of late, recording two more RBIs on his 2 for 5 afternoon. Second baseman Andrew Carpenter was also 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Starting pitcher Justin Morris had an effective outing, allowing just two earned runs and recording five strikeouts in four innings of work.
The Cougars will open the conference slate Friday with a series at Chattanooga State. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
