Dr. Luis Almeida, associate professor of communications at Lee University, recently saw his book “TechnoModeration: Our Only Means of Survival,” published by Break Free Press.

The book is currently ranked No. 9 in the engineering research category, 39th in the computer science category, and 137th in artificial intelligence on Amazon’s Kindle, and has been endorsed by Michal Michalko, creative expert and author of the best-seller “Thinkertoys.”

“Need is what led me to write this book,” said Almeida. “I am afraid that we, as a society, have gone out of control in terms of technology use. Most folks don’t realize that technology causes severe side effects on us and our living systems.”

Almeida’s book is a collection of his articles written for the Cleveland Daily Banner and includes his model, the “Human Robot Cycle,” on how a person’s equilibrium is affected by technology use.

“Becoming a Brand: The Rise of TechnoModeration” and “From the Mind of Dr. A” are two of Almeida’s books that precede this newest one on the subject of limiting one’s technological usage. Almeida has also published a book of photography, “Visual Mississippi,” and two educational books with Pearson Education.

Almeida joined Lee’s Communication Arts faculty fall 2017. Before Lee, he was an associate professor at Jackson State University, where he also served as the interim department chair.

Almeida has been a critic of technology and leadership contributor in a number of national outlets, including ABC-Jackson, NPR, TEDxPhoenixville, and the Wall Street Journal. He has presented at more than 70 conferences and published articles in three continents.

He earned his doctorate from Penn State University, his master’s from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and his bachelor’s from Slippery Rock University.

“TechnoModeration: Our Only Means of Survival” is available on Amazon.
