Back in Motion Chiropractic plans a Friday blood drive

Back in Motion Chiropractic and Rehabilitation will host a blood drive with nonprofit regional blood center Blood Assurance in honor of Remedy Rhodes.

The blood drive will take place on Friday, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., at Back In Motion Chiropractic and Rehabilitation at 3771 Georgetown Rd N.W.

“Our family is blessed to have this community donate in honor of my 3-year-old daughter, Remedy Rhodes, who was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and neutropenia in April of this year,” said Danielle Rhodes, Remedy’s mother.

“Even at such a young age, Remedy has been helped several times by blood transfusions that help her fight these diseases after operations. Through this drive, we want to support all others who are fighting either of the diagnoses Remedy received.”

Dr. David Rahamut, M.D., lead physician for Back In Motion Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, offers to waive a co-pay fee for anyone who donates at Rhodes’ drive. Back in Motion offers auto injury treatment, headache relief and massage therapy.

“Whenever we host a drive, our Cleveland community always shows up strong to support its members like Remedy,” said Patti Wallace, donor recruiter for Blood Assurance. “Join the Cleveland family in supporting Remedy on August 18!”

Donors are encouraged to join the Be The Match program, an organization made up of individuals who work together to recruit bone marrow and/or stem cell donors to match potential donors with patients in need of life-saving transplants.

Blood Assurance has been a member of the Be The Match Registry since 1993. Potential donors must be between the ages of 18 and 44 years old and are required to meet certain health guidelines.

All donors will receive the “Donor Surf Co.” T-shirt; donors 18 years or older will be entered into a Blood Assurance monthly drawing for a $100 Elder’s Ace Hardware gift card, compliments of August #BAChampion Elder’s Ace Hardware; and donors 18 years or older will also be entered into a drawing to win the “Pick Your Paradise” vacation getaway for a $1,500 travel voucher ending on Aug. 31.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 18 years old (16 and 17 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health.

Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.
