NEW ORLEANS — Lee University's Justin Brooks has been named 2019 South Region Men's Track Athlete of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Lee coach Caleb Morgan was honored as South Region Men’s Coach of the Year.
Brooks, a senior from Athens, Ga., is ranked ninth nationally in the 400 at 46.78 seconds and 13th nationally in the 200 at 20.88. He won individual titles at the Gulf South Conference Championships in each event and was a member of the winning 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams at the same meet.
Brooks is scheduled to compete in the 200, 400 and 4x400 relay events later this week at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Morgan led the Lee men to the Gulf South Conference Championship by a margin of 40 points with wins in 11 events. The Flames rank 24th nationally headed into the NCAA Championships, after qualifying a program record of five student-athletes in six events.
