Catherine Sutherland Freeman, of Benton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Catherine was born March 23, 1924, in Leith, Scotland. She was serving in the British Army when she met and married an American GI. In 1946 she and her infant daughter came to America aboard the Queen Mary.

The couple went on to have nine more children; five boys and five girls. She leaves 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She had many stories and fond memories from her lifetime. We are all proud to be descendants of this amazing, resilient and vastly extended Scotch-Appalachian line they built together.

She was preceded in death by her husband, GB Freeman; daughters: Sandra Jones and Brenda Henry; and son, George Freeman.

She is survived by her three daughters: Anna Murphey of Cleveland, Dot Freeman of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Margie Ross and husband, Marvin, of Benton; four sons: Randy Freeman of Hixon, Boyd Freeman of Pikeville, Robert Freeman and wife, Kim, of Athens and Jack Freeman of Benton.

A graveside Celebration of Her Life will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Joe Brooks officiating. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.

We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Freeman family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
