City Council to consider property tax rate, new budget Monday

Property taxes in Cleveland will remain at their current rate, according to a copy of a proposed ordinance included in the City Council's agenda packet.

Currently, taxes are levied on all real and personal property at $2.06 on each $100 of assessed valuation. They were increased approximately 29 cents last year from $1.77 by a 4-2 vote by the City Council.

The Council will vote on the tax and budget ordinance on first reading during its 3 p.m. session on Monday at the Municipal Building,

City Manager Joe Fivas will present the city's fiscal year 2020 budget, as well as the budgets for Cleveland Utilities and Cleveland City Schools during the Council's 1 p.m. work session.

A public hearing for the budget will be held prior to voting.

During the 3 p.m. session, the City Council will consider the following:

Hearing petitions and communications

•Public Hearing – To hear public comments concerning the FY2020 Budget 

Consent agenda

•Final Passage - Zoning Ordinance No: 2019-17 – Rezoning 1.75 acres located on King Edward Avenue S.E. (Tax Map 057E Group G Parcels 4.00, 5.00, 6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 and 13.00 from IH Heavy Industry to R2 Low Density Single and Multi-Family Residential Zoning District (Planning Commission: Approved 8-0; 1 member absent).

•Final Passage - Zoning Ordinance No: 2019-18 – Zoning about 1.12 acres located at 702 Martin Drive N.W., from the unincorporated county to R1 Single Family Residential Zoning District (Planning Commission: Approved 8-0; 1 member absent).

•Resolution No: 2019-32 – Authorizing a loan agreement in the principal amount not to exceed $1,771,000 for Wastewater Facilities Project (Cleveland Utilities).

•Resolution No: 2019-33 – Authorizing the Mayor to sign an animal rescue agreement with Tennessee Dachshund Rescue, Inc.

Unfinished business

Motion – Concerning the issuance of a Certificate of Compliance and Local Liquor Store Privilege License to Cleveland Liquor World to be located at 1077 Wildwood Avenue.

New business and ordinances

Ordinance No: 2019-19 – Adopting the 2019 Tax Rate for FY2020 ($2.06).

Ordinance No: 2019-20 – Adopting the FY2020 Budget.
