Cody McCarver to perform Friday at Cowboy Jubilee
“Christian music artist and actor Cody McCarver, formerly of the country music band Confederate Railroad, will be performing at the Cowboy Gospel Jubilee Friday at 7 p.m.,” said Steve Poteet, producer of the weekly show.
McCarver is a 2017 Top 10 nominee for Video Of The Year for The Inspirational Country Music Association Awards for his video "Rise Up." The ICMA Award ceremony will be held at the Grand Ole Opry on April 5.
“Cody has a unique, God-given talent. It is encouraging to listen to him share his testimony and talent in song,” Poteet said.
McCarver began his career at age 9 in a small church in Spencer, playing piano. Later in life he would end up playing bass guitar for Lynn Anderson before signing his own record contract with Giant Records. That record was never released and McCarver joined Confederate Railroad, where he spent a decade touring and recording and enjoying being at the top of the charts.
After leaving the band, McCarver started a solo country career, recording at Capital Studios in Los Angeles. Despite a lucrative career, McCarver said he was miserable, and spent every day drinking way too much. Searching for joy, McCarver went back to church and re-established his relationship with Jesus.
McCarver will tell you, "A life without Jesus is not a life."
Also appearing on the Cowboy Jubilee stage is Elmer Bramlett, Joel Moore, and the Cowboy Church Band, featuring Pastor Wally Varnell on the electric guitar. Poteet is host and announcer.
The Cowboy Gospel Jubilee is held at the Cleveland Cowboy Church in the Dockery Heights community at 3040 Blythe Road, off Dockery Lane, between Blue Springs and Blackburn Roads.
Admission is free and a love offering is taken for the headliners.
