Connie Melinda Bancroft


Connie Melinda Bancroft, 62, a resident of McDonald, passed away on Saturday morning, Sept. 14, 2019, at the family residence.

She was the daughter of the late Lillie Christine Ramsey Bancroft and John Paul Bancroft. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Millie Bancroft and McKinley and Bertha Ramsey; and her sister, Joann Bancroft.

She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School, Cleveland State Community College, and Lee University. She received her Masters Degree in Education from Trevecca in Nashville. She served 38 years as a this-grade teacher at Prospect Elementary School. She was a member of the Red Clay Reading Association, Bradley County Education Association and the Tennessee Educators Association. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Delta Pi fraternities.

She was a member of Bancroft Church of God, where she taught Sunday School and served as Children's Church Director.

Survivors include her aunt, Frankie Beaty; her sister, Peggy Burris and her husband, Virgil, of McDonald; the light of her life, nephews Chad Burris of McDonald and Colby Burris of Cleveland; special nieces: Rachel Burris and Sarah Burris; her great-nephew, Caleb Burris; her great-nieces: Morgan Burris and Lillie Burris; and numerous cousins.

The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, Wildwood Chapel, with the Rev. Ronnie Branham, Terry Caywood and Steve Montgomery officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lee Cemetery in McDonald, with Chad Burris, Colby Burris, Caleb Burris, Steve Montgomery, Moe McCormick and Doug Roberts serving as casket bearers.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Prospect Elementary Library, 2450 Prospect School Road N.W., Cleveland.

The family received friends Monday, and from 4:30 until 7:30 today, at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, Wildwood Chapel, who has charge of the arrangements.
