The Bradley County Commission will honor a longtime Bradley County Sheriff’s Office employee during its voting session Tuesday. The sole agenda item as of Friday afternoon was a motion to present Deputy Chip Bryant with his service weapon upon his retirement.

According to a letter from Sheriff Steve Lawson to County Commission Vice Chairman Jeff Yarber, Bryant has retired.

“He had been with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Department well over 20 years,” the letter stated.

Other points of business during the meeting include:

• A consent agenda that includes budget amendments; requests to dispose of assets from the BCSO and Bradley County Emergency Management Agency; approval of notary publics; and a motion to approve a letter requesting the City of Cleveland share the cost of purchasing an automated external defibrillator device for the Bradley-Cleveland Senior Center, with cost not to exceed $2,000.

The AED issue was introduced during the County Commission’s Jan. 28 meeting.  Commissioner Louie Alford said there is no automated external defibrillator at the senior center. He wants to work with the city to provide one.

"I think it's badly needed," he said.

The Bradley County Commission’s Finance Committee approved drafting a letter and sending it to city officials.

Also at the meeting, Finance Committee Chairman Milan Blake said he believes “any and all Bradley County government buildings” need to have AEDs.

“It’s better to have it and never need it, than to need it and not have it,” he said.

Alford added he believes it is important to have AEDs at Bradley County’s parks, too. Blake said he will recommend the issue to the Building and Land Committee.

• A report from County Mayor D. Gary Davis

• Reports from Committees and/or Districts

• Communication from the audience

The invocation will be given by Grace Adewuya, of Amazing Grace Ministries.

The Bradley County Commission will meet in a voting session at noon Tuesday in the County Commission Courtroom at the Courthouse.

The meeting is being held on Tuesday because county governmental offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day.
