Cleveland State Community College recently held an in-service for faculty and staff. Many employees were honored with service awards at the event. Several CSCC employees were recommended and approved to receive tenure from the Tennessee Board of Regents, while others received promotions. Nancy Thomas, associate professor of nursing, evening coordinator, was recently selected as the 2017 Service-Learning Champion at CSCC. The Service-Learning Champion Award is an annual faculty-staff nominated award honoring a colleague who has demonstrated commitment to the promotion of service-learning. Thomas was among the first faculty to recognize the value of service-learning as a way to provide hands-on learning experiences for students. She is a charter member of the Service-Learning Advisory Council, and since that time, she has encouraged and led faculty teams to incorporate service-learning across multiple nursing courses.
