Dale Bruce Payne, 78, of Cleveland, died in peace surrounded by family on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017.
The words "stubborn" and "strong" were frequently heard as his children spoke of him during his short hospital stay. He acquired these traits growing up in the mountains of Coker Creek.
Gay and Rosa Payne, now deceased, had 10 children with seven of them surviving birth. As a young man Dale moved to Cleveland, where he worked 20-plus years at Maytag. At the time of retirement, he worked as a security guard at Advanced Photographic Solutions.
He is survived by two brothers: Ted Payne and Marion (Leota) Payne, both of Cleveland; four daughters: Connie Morrison, Brenda Kelly and Marie Payne, all of Cleveland, and Rhonda (Rodney) Mason, of Athens; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his beloved Dodge truck.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at Companion Funeral Home, 2419 Georgetown Road N.W.
The family will receive friends two hours prior, from 4 to the 6 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
