Emma Jean Gregory Overbey King “Ms. Jean” 85, was born on Aug. 27, 1932. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.

She is survived by her three children: Pamela Kay Overbey, Dr. Ancil Overbey III and his wife, Sherry, and Sandra Glass; eight grandchildren: Heather (Matt) McGlothin, Derek (April) Saunders, Dr. Stuart (Dr. Alex) Glass, Kati (Andrew) Charron, Andrew (Kristen) Overbey, Eli (Rebekah) Overbey, Emily Glass and Stephen Glass; six great-grandchildren: Dylan, Collin and Kara Saunders, Cody McGlothlin and Theo and Mary Grace Overbey; and siblings: Alma Stowers, Shirley Sutphin, Bill, Oren, and Don and Jimmie Gregory

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Ancil Overbey Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Trubie Gregory; one brother, Trubie Gregory Jr.; son-in-law, Ray Glass; and other family members and friends.

Ms. Jean, who was born and raised in Rocky Gap, Va., moved to Cleveland in 1975, where she lived for 37 years. She loved working with children as she was employed as a headstart teacher for approximately 20 years with the Bradley County Head-Start Program.

She was a member of the South Cleveland Church of God. She spent 40 years teaching Sunday school with the pre-kindergarten age children, and most of her Saturday evenings were spent preparing her craft projects for her pre-schoolers. Most Saturday mornings she loved going to yard sales to find just the right baby clothes for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Gaston County, where her son, Dr. Ancil Overbey III, serves as the director.

She lived the last five years of her life with her daughter, Sandra Glass. The family gives a special “thank you” for the loving and gentle care Sandra gave our mother during her battle with Alzheimer’s.

A Celebration of Life service will be held today, Sept. 20, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, W.Va. Dr. Ancil Overbey III will officiate the service.

The family will receive family and friends at noon prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family requests donations be made to Crisis Pregnancy Center, 700 Robinson Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91).

Thank you for your support and continued prayers for the family.
