Copper Basin Medical Center will hold a two-day sale of its supplies Thursday and Friday.
Public sale hours are scheduled for Friday, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., and Saturday, from 9 a.m. until noon.
According to a Facebook posting, all proceeds will go to pay employees' unpaid wages.
A pre-sale event for former employees who received wages in 2017 and former volunteers is scheduled for Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Among the inventory being sold are office chairs, bookcases, cabinets, shelving, office supplies, wall hangings, personal computer accessories and televisions.
A selection of medical equipment suitable for home use including wheelchairs, hospital beds will also be available for purchase.
The posting says all items will be sold "as is" and must be removed from the property by 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4.
The sale comes after major efforts on the part of local government entities to keep the hospital in operation.
The hospital had been struggling to pay a penalty levied by the IRS, and payments of around $800,000 remaining on a bank loan.
The bank had threatened foreclosure, and the Polk County Commission approved the
purchase of about $600,000 of the loan, and the city of Ducktown
acquired the remaining $200,000.
The city of Copper Basin had also signed off on the loan, but was financially unable to assume a portion.
This action by the county and Ducktown governments allowed the hospital to continue operating for outpatient and emergency service needs — at that time. The facility had not taken in-patients for some time.
Since that time, the hospital has completely shut down, becoming at least the 10th rural hospital to close in Tennessee since 2010.
The equipment sale will take place at the former medical center located at 144 Medical Center Drive in Copperhill.
A full list of items and photos of select items can be viewed on the Copper Basin Medical Center Facebook page.
