GRAAB to host special events during ‘31 Days of Prevention’ in October

Posted

To heighten awareness of the issue of substance abuse and addiction recovery in our community, the GRAAB Coalition has proclaimed October as “31 Days of Prevention.” Working with our “Partners in Prevention,” the GRAAB Coalition seeks to continue building the framework for lasting community change for the citizens of Bradley and Polk Counties.

The “31 Days of Prevention” will address key events in the month of October, including National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, National Teen Driver Safety Week (Oct. 15-21), Drug-Free Work Week (Oct. 16-21) and Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23-31). The month will provide opportunities for parents, youth, and anyone interested in learning more about the importance of providing a safe and healthy environment for their families.

Events during this time will include, but not be limited to, educational displays at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library and Cleveland Family YMCA, DEA Sponsored Drug Take Back Collection Day, YMCA Fall Festival and a third year hosting the candlelight vigil “Light Up the Night.” With this vigil, they are partnering with the NOPE Taskforce. This vigil will focus on our community and offer hope for those whose loved ones have struggled with substance abuse. The vigil also offers a platform for those who have overcome substance abuse issues to relate their stories about the dangers of addiction.

Event information and general substance abuse facts and statistics will be circulated through GRAAB’s Twitter feed, Facebook page, Instagram, and website. The entire monthlong event will culminate with key events during Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 23-31. GRAAB will be using #31DaysGRAAB through social media posts, so please join the conversation and share your thoughts.

The mission of the GRAAB Coalition is to bring together concerned individuals, members of the community, and service providers to facilitate lowering illicit and addictive use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in Bradley and Polk Counties by providing effective education, recovery, and support for youth, families, and the community.

GRAAB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and all donations are tax-deductible. For more information on the GRAAB Coalition, call 423-805-3367 or email: info@graabcoalition.com.
