An inmate died Tuesday at the Bradley County Jail, bringing the number of inmate deaths to three for the year.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office announced in an email Tuesday that it is conducting a death investigation. No other details were released.

According to the email, Bradley County EMS responded to the jail at approximately 12:30 p.m. Also, 10th Judicial District Attorney General Steve Crump and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have been notified.

Crump verified this morning he was notified of the inmate death and notified TBI, according to protocol.

Two other inmate deaths have occurred at the Bradley County Jail in 2018, in the five-month period from April to September:

• On April 19, a man who authorities still have not publicly identified was found unresponsive in a holding cell, and later died.

According to the TBI, responding at the time to a request for information from the Cleveland Daily Banner, the inmate had been arrested by the Cleveland Police Department at approximately 3:15 that morning and was found unresponsive in the holding cell shortly after 8 a.m.

“Medics transported the inmate to the hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased,” an email from TBI public information officer Josh DeVine stated. “An autopsy will be performed in Chattanooga, as our investigation continues.”

• On Aug. 21, Fawn Zanette Branham, 54, of Decatur, was found unresponsive in a cell.

“Upon finding the inmate unresponsive, correctional officers and on-site medical staff requested emergency assistance and began performing life-saving measures,” stated a BCSO news release issued at the time. “Bradley County Emergency Medical Services arrived shortly after, and the inmate was pronounced dead.”

As of press time, no additional details about Tuesday’s inmate death had been released. The Cleveland Daily Banner will update this story when additional information is made available.
